Books all (new) managers should read.

Books all (new) managers should read.

I often get asked for reading lists suited to new managers.

Here are my top 5 books that all (new) managers should read:

Anything by Malcolm Gladwell, but specifically The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers and David & Goliath.

7 habits of highly effective people. There’s not enough space here for me to give all the benefits of this classic personal management book. This one helps you get your house in order before considering managing others.

5 Dysfunctions of a team by Patrick Lencioni. Bottom line, no one is indispensable. I’m also a fan of Lencion’s Death by Meetings.

Brand You by Tom Peters. This one addresses how you show up. Along the same lines, you might also want to consider looking at The Leaders Shadow, by William Judge

One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard. A short but powerful read on how to give simple, yet effective feedback in a timely manner.

And finally….Making Work Work by yours truly. Is it a bit self serving? Absolutely, and it has some GREAT tips on how to get your people to show up, play nicely and get the job done.
